Heavy taxes on cigarettes, gasoline, luxury cars, booze, etc etc.
Federal Sales Tax added to Provincial Sales tax can be greater than 15% (in some provinces). Here in BC is'a only 14.5% on everything you buy.
You do get to have somewhere around 1.30 of our dollars for one of yours though.
