    Cross sells - a surfer's view

In December I subscribed to a website that I saw reviewed here. The review was helpful and the site was great. While on the site I clicked on two links that offered free access to other sites owned by the same provider. I probably spent less than five minutes on both sites and downloaded nothing before heading back to the site that I had subscribed to. I had an unpleasant surprise when I opened my Visa bill this month - a total charge of just less than $60. I went to the billing site and saw that my 'free' click had actually triggered a month membership for each.

While I was a bit naive to click on the links, I think that this is unethical behaviour. This was a decent website that I would have re-subscribed to to get updates a couple of times a year, but not now.

cannot edit the title? wtf ?

I think crap like this prevents people from joining websites to begin with. It's a short-term gain, destroying long-term prospects. It's about money, but we'd make more money in the long term if people could come to trust they won't get ripped off.

Were you able to get your money back? I would have charged it back. If the charges were hidden, then charge back. I run a paysite and I hate charge backs, but to me this crosses the border. I'd rather see these sites shut down sooner than later.

Well, I'd say others will treat it for us soon.
And I'm not sure if that's really such a bad thing for webmasters that go for long term income and stability.
