you're asking in fact if you should recurring or per signup ...
what do you think it's best for recurring, downloadable or streaming?

We are in the process of switching over all the reality sites from download to streaming for the videos. Although some members have complained about the change, overall response has been positive thus far. The switch to streaming has not negatively impacted our membership retention, to this point.

I think what we see here is a response to the Acacia threat.

A large part of the decision to switch to streaming was that downloaded content gets distributred rapidly over p2p networks, which over time devalues the content and hurts the conversions on the sites. With downloadable clips, you also see a lot of surfers signing up for trials, ripping the most recently added clips, and then cancelling. Offering streaming only discourgages that practice, because they have to come to the site to watch the vids.

This has nothing to do with Acacia, obviously. On top of the fact that we have already licensed with Acacia, they assert that video streaming is violation of their patents, so switching to streaming would be no protection against their claims.

                            just my thoughts

i love topbucks but i pushed a site where they offered only streamed videos and my retention took a shizer.

why not put drm on the videos instead? it might be a more expensive solution, but it would help retention and less p2p.

i am sorry to say this again because topbucks is one of my favorite sponsors (on PPS!) - so in general i dont care BUT

                              1) its not P2P thats killing you
dont you wonder why 1000s of people are enjoying your sites everyday for free without a password

did you ever hear about "spoofing"?
you should know about this url as a big sponsor:
                              http://24.106.100.133/

                              enter:
                              http://www.gangbangsquad.com/bonus/
as url and referrer and enjoy your site for free!

works with all your sites and everyone in that stealing password business knows that

you should invest some time in research
i have someone spend at least half an hour everyday searching password forums for my own sites

                              2) i have been to topbucks site because i wanted to decide if your sites can recurr surfers before choosing PPS or PPP

what i see are low quality movies (even though they are exclusive the quality sucks!) split into 20-40 parts... something at 2.5 MB each

you offer no big files at all
me - thinking as a surfer - would cancel right away

=> i wouldnt want to download your videos from P2P networks

if you wanna increase recurring numbers take my above, free advice: close the most obvious security holes, offer better quality videos in bigger parts and your reality sites can bring in better recurring cash in a style of nastyd and co

as far as the trial surfers downloading all movies at once
thats no big deal anymore from what i heard
                              do what socalcash does
should be enough information for you

This is true, but then again some sites use p2p as a way of marketing the sites right?

p2p gives a good exposure for the site! frankly, i'm very disappointed in topbux decision- this means i'm lowering their scores on my reviews.

quentin- if you didn't charge an exhorbitant amount of 40$, you'd convert better from trial to monthly.

True - DRM makes it possible to turn distributed clips into an advertising platform on p2p. We have delved into that a bit in the past, but probably have not taken full advantage of the options afforded by DRM.

It's possible that we will offer the download option again at some point in the future; we only recently switched over to streaming, and we are still gauging member feedback. I appreciate the points that you all have made on this thread, and we'll take them into account when evaluating this further.

Sorry Trax - didn't intend to ignore you. Stepped off into a rather lengthy meeting for a while there.

You made some good points, and I immediately had our techs check into the security issue that you pointed out. To this point, that hole has not been a significant problem for us, but we will get it closed, nonetheless.

I'd be happy to discuss any/all of this with you in more detail - hit me up on icq at 150210459 or email [email protected]
