    Would you date a virgin?

    The other day there was a show on the BBC about this Silver Ring Thing program that is apparently growing in popularity in the States. A written summary of the show can be found here .

    The basic deal is that they are Christians that go around selling kids ($12 a pop) these silver rings that they put on their fingers and in doing so they are promising to keep it on their finger until their wedding night when they are suppose to take it off, hand it to their husband or wife and say 'I have been waiting for you since I put this on'.

    I have a couple issues. The first being that on the show they were having kids as low as eight putting on these rings. At eight you are not making that choice on your own or with any real knowledge of what a rush of hormones can do to your body. So, what happens if parents had their daughter put on this ring and then suddenly she isn't wearing it one day?

    Would you put one of these rings on your kids?

    Also, it made me think - how many of you as an adult would have a long term dating relationship with a virgin who would be remaining a virgin until marriage?

          As to your first question, I think that's stupid to put make a decision like that for you children, and it's just another way of making money I don't think they really care. but anyway, as for dating someone that is a virgin I wouldn't mind it as long as she has other stuff to offer. brains, and looks

              You shouldn't be having sex until 16 (at minimum) anyway. I guess at that point, the children can choose whether they want to follow the path chosen for them, or else do what they want.

                                                              Prhh its the same thing as to say to a fat kid to don't eat cake on his birdthday.                                                                                                                                                                           The decision to have sex is a very personal decision. I would much rather teenagers be brought up with a "wait until you are ready" attitude, rather than "wait until you are married." Its unrealistic to ask young teenagers to make a decision that they wont have sex until they are married.

                                                                                                                                                                          So, if they were a virgin because they hadent met the right person, I would. If they are a virgin because they were told they "should" be a virgin until marriage, I would seriously take that into consideration before dating them.

If we had been made to wear rings like that back then...even if we were fucking...we would have kept the ring on.
