Yes, but if you look, the girl also appears to have downs syndrome. With many Downs suffers, they also have hormonal and chemical imbalances which tends to make them much more prone to being obese, even without overeating. Sluggish thyroids mean for sluggish metabolisms. Being fat isn't always about gluttony. Sometimes it IS actually medical.

if she is that size at that age chances are there is more to it than over eating and well done for laughing at her.

And I have NEVER seen a downs child that is that obese..

Even if you have thyroid issues and your metabolism is fast, you can still get your kid up off the couch and out on a bike or in the park or something..

Theres a difference between being a lazy fat slob, and being fat and being in shape even with a weight problem..

well it sure doesn't help but how can anyone tell just from looking at that CHILD that she is in the same situation. I don't get why laughing at a kid who - however she got there - has medical issues is a good thing. All you will get is a kid who not only has to deal with the weight issues but now also has self esteme issues.

TRUST me, I know about growing up as a fat girl. At her age I was no where near her size but I was still fat. Very rarely ate fast food. I am sure a lot of it with me came from lack of movement but at that age I was still running around llike any kid - on soccer teams and the like and was still fat.

Hey, turns out it was partly medical (not fully, there was no doubt a point where I could have atleast moved more as a teen). WHen I hit puberty the 'chunky' Sarah started really gaining, that is when they did the medical tests.

So, yes some parents are bad about what they feed there kids. If ever manage to have kids they aren't going near a fast food place for a long as I can keep them away and they will eat whole foods, very little out of a jar or a packet.

However, it is not the case with every kid and even if it was that doesn't change the fact that laughing at the CHILD is cruel.

Where was I making fun of the children in those pictures?

Im stating my opinions that if you allow your child to get that obese then you are at fault as a parent..

Many Downs children do not posess the wiring that signals when they are 'full'. Without checks in place, some of these kids will literally eat themselves sick, when their stomach acids simply cannot keep up- (think about trying to drink 2 gallons of milk in 15 minutes, guarantee you will puke)

Making fun of obese or ill children is not funny. Furthermore I don't feel that pictures of anyone under the age of 18 belongs on an adult themed forum.

I think that it's wrong to overfeed a child too. It's a horrible thing when a parent pushes horrible eating habits like that on a kid. However, you also can't assume and rule out the possibility of a medical condition. One of my cousins is huge, and has been all her life, and she barely eats ANYTHING. Her condition is 100% medical. Yet she went through her entire life with people assuming she was some kind of eating machine.

Still, I kind of think this thread not overly tasteful, as I really don't think that anything making fun of children is amusing at all. Laughing with them, ok. Blatantly laughing at them in a hurtful manner, even if they don't know you are doing so.. just shows something about one's character. Parenting is not easy! I am blessed that my children have high metabolisms and are normal. My hubby feeds them candy, sugar, and junkfood on a dialy basis..it drives me insane and i have almost left my family for this reason...somethings you just don''t have complete control over.
Before i met hubby, i was a body builder and never had junk food in the house... poor guy is now married to a pissed off chubby girl ..ya reap what ya sow.

Yes, I agree some people have real medical issues.. BUT, on that note, are 100% of these cases with obese children "medical" issues? No!! Even if its a 50/50 ratio, that is still ludacris!!

How could you allow your child to eat so unhealthy, and not help them to exercise regularly (play or sport activities) that they get that obese...

I am skinny, I have a medical issue that keeps me skinny, total reverse of being obese. (yes, I know.. Its different to a degree) so I understand where you say it may be a medical issue..

I struggle daily with eating enough food to keep the weight that I have gained on.. I have to eat around 4-5 meals a day, my metabolism is so fast that thru age 18-23 I weighed 125-130 lbs.. That is skinny for my height, I am now close to 150lbs from constantly eating proteins and carbs to bulk up more, and I will have to fight every day to keep this weight on, much as someone else would have to fight to keep the weight off or to lose more weight..

I know some people here have personal or close to home issues with obecity, I applaud anyone who tries to live a healty life, and I applaud you for being comfortable with who you are..

But, at the same time, would you take your kid to mcdonalds and get them value meals (not happy meals) every day? Would you allow them to consume portions that are fitting for a mature adult?

I see this and I see a little girl having the fucking time of her life, she doesn't care that she is heavy and she doesn't care what others think, she is just having a really good time, and it's awesome to see in children these days.

It is her parents that should be taking responsibility for her being heavy, not her...... she's just a happy kid!! Or appears that way in this pic.

I agree with sarah here, I never in my life had a weight issue til I had kids and then I took this job on and have been on my big fat ass for 4 years....... in MY case, it is my own damn fault and I can control it when I decide to. BUT I have a step mother that struggled with weight her entire life........ we are estranged and have been for many many years, but she finnaly went to seek help on this issue and found out that her body was turning certyain things she ate into sugar (don't ask me, I don't know all the details), and she wasn't going to be able to lose the weight no matter what she did.... meds, excercise, eating.... none of it was going to help her. She was so fucking bitter and angry that she was impossible to live with when I was growing up........ BUT I seen her about a year ago and you know? She is one happy motherfucker, she found out there was nothing she can do, and it isn't in fact HER fault, and she is now about as happy as I have ever seen anyone.

Bottom line, you don't have to be skinny to be beautiful and happy..... if it is something you can control, then control it, if it isn't then BE FUCKING HAPPY.

Maybe this little lady's parents HAVE taken steps with her and they didn't work, so they are just "making her happy and well adjusted in her own reality"...... if this is the case, HOORAY for them.........

Those kids that are allowed to just eat at will and no control being taken, have far more issues than WEIGHT......... and THAT should be dealt with first and THEN the weight problem, not vice versa in my opinion.

Be happy in your own skin, regardless of how much or little you have of it, and the rest of your life falls into place. Worry about what people think of you and you have far more things to worry about than how you LOOK. THIS little girl looks happy in her own skin, this is a good thing for her and I hope she continues to be that way, she'll shine no matter what SIZE she is.

I have seen skinny people with far more worries about life in general than I ever have an overweight person who is happy just being who they are.

That's the same girl that's been on Maury Povich a few times. She has a gland problem. She doesn't process her food correctly and she keeps getting bigger. It's not her fault nor her parent's fault.

What MY point is is this, don't judge this little girl, maybe her situation IS being handled and maybe she is just a happy little girl in her own skin.. maybe the situation with her is out of anyone's control.
