I don't think i'm ready to change from 40 to 10, 5, or 1.
With all the Visa changes, I came with our $1 sites to increase our overall monthly transactions and have some damn happy surfers..
Do these surfers upsell to our 10 dollar and 40 dollar sites? Hell yes they do.
Any membership that low should not be able to have access to my full catalog on videos.. (over 100 gigs of DRM uncut videos)
Point is.. Yes it converts like a mag program..

Pricing models are interesting. The key to making successfull pricing decision is Test, Evaluate, Repeat.
The primary goal should be to get the maximum value out of the surfer as possible, so that you can afford to pay the affiliates as much as possible. Different people have different models..
Now that exit consoles are becoming less and less effective due to blockers, etc. I think we're going to see a lot more emphasis being placed on retention than it has been in the past. Especially for PPS sponsors.

I do not think the business model of subscription based sites will fade, I believe that honest business will be forced to grow holding there own merchant accounts.
A fast paced industry like ours lookin to turn a profit on 1 buck aint gonna be a Primary focus for returns based on the 1 buck being processed. 1 dollar or 5 dollar sites is perhaps more of a facilitative use really. The facilitative use is of course is creating a positive environment for upsells.
Whether 1 or 5 makes no difference in my opinion. You can sock the subscriber today or later and I think some businessmen these days are trying harder to sock a card holder first instead gain the subscribers trust in an upsell environment later.
However......
If I may go on. Take note that alot of sites that are openning these days holding smaller amounts of content that is exclusive. They ask for a small amount 20-25 or so in the amateur markets particularly with emphasise on exclusive niche content.
One thing that is very important to realise is that to construct a warehouse of it "all" will not do. There is always going to be a niche out there holding content that is exclusive to that site.
Everyting is a click away and the more ya put it all in one nest the more likely it will be under marketed.

if the customer is truely satisfied with the $25 for the niche content then so be it but the volume is not there with the niche stuff. I agree there will always be room for lots of small independent niche stuff, but I am talking about making more than 2-5 mil a month in sales. there are not a lot of companies doing that now. adn I am saying those that do that will have to go to this new model or get eaten alive by teh big brand namesComment
