To be PERFECTLY honest, if it IS true, and it hasn't been put all over the news, it's because the capture of Osama would be a MUCH bigger accomplishment than the capture of Saddam was in the eyes of the world stage. And according to that article, if it's to be believed, it wasn't the Americans who captured him. Dontcha know, not good press.

Maybe they have gotta do DNA and confirm before announcing it worldwide. More likely it's not true though or the worlds press would be reporting 'possible capture'.

It's possible that there is a temporary embargo on the information until it's confirmed, then every news agency will get all the details forwarded directly from officials at a set time.

Failure to stick to the embargo would mean breaking regulator laws and no established news agency would do that.

I work in the media during the week and do this part time. I know that this is the way giant news stories are broken i.e death of a head of state or any other 'realease of information' story. This would not be the same for a terror attack etc networks would just go with the first available news / pics.

This doesn't seem right though, I would guess CNN etc have checked with the company who broke the news and offered big bucks for the source of the info, and found it not likely.

This news is probably untrue as most of what comes out of that part of the world is outright lies.

However, if the US or other nation did capture Osama, it would behoove them to keep it quiet for a week or two. In that time they could use whatever intel they get to hunt down the active cells around the world. As soon as those cells hear that Osama has been captured, they will dispurse and go into hiding.

Having said that, I don't think the US gov has the discipline to keep a story like this quiet. Someone would leak it. Some other zealous idiot would print it.
