Not saying those without design education aren't any good, there are plenty of great "uneducated" designers.. it just takes them longer to get there on the whole. There are also swathes of educated but untalented waste of spaces.. like most students not everyone applies themselves or should be in the course in the first place.
That said I would of course on paper take someone with two years education and two years employment over someone with four years education.
