Too small. If you're going to get one, why not get at least 200 gig, probably even more.

No offense, really! I just don't get why anyone would buy a 120GB drive. Backups or not I can't imagine the pain of a drive that size failing on me. I'll take a stack of 9GB drives in RAID arrays any day. Yes, more expensive on the front end but damned less expensive on the back end when shit happens.

Exactly. Anything else is aimed at the newbee market and charging silly $ I think.

                  Canada?

Everyone knows that Canada isnt a real place. There is no such thing as Canadians.

Sure you can fight it and say "Well Pam Anderson is from Canada, and so is Hockey" but so what. Most of us got presents from Santa when we were little and he doesnt exist either.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm.

best to just buy the enclosure kit for usb 2.0 then go buy big generic drives, i just bought a 160gig drive for $95 at office depot.

the kits are avail on ebay, maybe about 25 bucks.

so now you have an external drive you can move from machine to machine.

I use maxtor. I have a 60 gig, an 80 gig and a 250 gig. I use them mainly to transfer raw dv from my computer to my laptop etc, or if I have alot of uncompressed edited video that needs to be rendered by a fast machine I will just hand the drive to someone who has a fast machine. I actually couldnt do what I do without them.
I also never had a *serious* problem with them either. I totally think they are worth their weight in gold.
IF you dont already have it you will need usb2 or firewire.
It takes about 10 minutes to transfer a 12 gig file to the drive from your HD. Thats the only complaint i have about it.
                        Hope this helped

I have one of the Maxtor One Touch HD's... 250 Gigs.
(Plus a couple older maxtor firewires)
                              Great Drive.
                              Has both USB2 & Firewire
                              USB2 is faster.

thanks guys. yeah i realize 120 gigs doesn't seem like that much but if i was going to drop 500-1000 bucks on an external drive i would just get a new computer with a huge HD. anyways, which is better? usb 2.0 or firewire? seems some ppl say usb and some say firewire. im guessing im going to have to get that installed too. thanks for the suggestion on buying a case and putting an IDE in, i think i'll probably go that route. im going to be using it for lossless audio files and movie files so even if it goes down im not losing anything *that* important.

The Maxtor is great but the plastic chasis makes it seem cheap. I have that and a Lacie which is awesome. I love firewire.

I always buy the firewire/usb2 combo drives - firewire is the best, but you can use the usb2 connection to a regular usb port in an emergency (much slower, but it can be a lifesaver if you travel with your data often).

i've been reading that firewire is 30 times faster than usb, so if thats true i think thats the way im gonna do, any recommendations for firewire adaptors? i saw some 'dashboard' adaptors that had both firewire and usb2 ports, seems cool but not sure if i want to take up a drive slot for it.

No reason not to get one that has usb and firewire. Make sure you get a 2meg buffer....some of the older maxtors are 1meg. Firewire is the way to go though, it screams compared to usb.

USB2 is faster than standard Firewire.

If it seems slow for you, your PC is probably ancient and you're actually using a USB1.1 port.

Also, for the other guy.. these one touch cases aren't plastic, they're aluminum.
