    Lord of The Rings = Racist?

    Interesting how the differing "races" are all white and the orcs, goblins, trolls, etc are non white.

    Then again, Hollywood is no stranger to demonization. How I'd love to watch a movie told from the point of view of an Orc captain. Perhaps, it would start with how they were an oppressed minority for so long and how elves/humans conspired to rob them of their birthright

Ethnic/religious separation (with some token exceptions ie., Frodo, Bilbo, and Gandalf joining the elves).

If you read the books, you wouldn't have made the statement above. Particularly, he edited out Bombadil, he also played up the 1 footnote mention of Arwen to become a full character in the narrative.

                                                                                                      What was preventing him from reflecting the ethnic/cultural/religious diversity that is the modern day world? If he was to pander to female viewer demographics, what was preventing him from reaching out to blacks and other minorities?

                                                                                                                                              Actually in the first book and movie, when they're on Weathertop and Frodo puts on the ring, right before he gets stabbed, Tolkien clearly describes the Ringraiths as being white, with pale faces.

                                                                                                                                              If anything, the moral is that these 'white guys' (Nazgul) corrupted all the other races, which is how the orcs were made..they were corrupeted from elves a long time before.

The idiot who started this thread is laughable. This is easily the best trilogy ever made and ROTK is one of the best movies of all time.........there is so much in the series it really boggles the mind.......there will always be mental midgets like this thread starter around to nitpick. Tolkien's works were about the human condition, not the racial condition.

                                                                                                                                                                                              Its why people will keep reading the books for several hundreds more years, and why LOTR series of books were voted the books of the century in Britain..........people could choose from any 20th century titles they wanted, and LOTR alone garnered over 40% of the vote in TOTALITY. That is amazing. People will read Tolkien for many more years and in five minutes, we will forget about the mentally challenged twit who started this thread.
