That's not stupidity of the parents (although, since intelligence is largely genetic, the parents will probably be pretty stupid too), it's stupidity of the kid. If at 14 you don't understand that re-enacting an execution can be somewhat dangerous, you are more than just a bit mentally challenged.
Honestly, I think this particular kid was more suicidal than curious though. His interest in the execution is a bit of a giveaway.
