let just have holiday's for everyone and everything all year long and prove even more to other countries how lazy americans are.

the holidays that we have now are there for a reason, MLK day if it wasn't for people like him there still would be White and Black separation. He died trying to bring people together, there is some reasoning for having a day named after him. do some reading and not just talk off the top of your head.

You are one dumb ass cracker! First of all, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was fighting for equality of ALL MINORITIES, and not just black men and women. Secondly, Asian American Month is MARCH!! Mexican American Month is May (aka Cinco De Mayo). The other 9 months of the year are CRACKER history month!

8 out of 9 months you learn about AMERICAN history. Not WHITE history. Within that falls slavery and how blacks helped to build this country, along with learning about famous black Americans who made a difference. Of course it is predominantly white men that you are learning about, but that is the case for any countries history that you would read. The white man was the explorer and the afircans were his slaves, no matter what continent he was on.

All are responsible for building this country, but you can not give one race a month, and not everyone else.

Hey all you numbnuts ... MLK is rolling in his grave. His point was not for us all to argue about stupid shit but to try to live together as equals and do unto others. An argument about who had it worse, jews, blacks, native americans, ... you might as well be debating abortion. Everyone has been buttfucked in history. Rather than arguing about it, look at where it is happening now and do something proactive about it.

It would be interesting to see how many people in this thread know anything about King other than his trifecta in the early-mid 60's.

There is certainly much more to King than the 1963 March on Washington, the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The shame is that this holiday seems to let most people know who he was without doing a whole hell of a lot to let them know much of what he did.



I'm still out on King...

His shift towards militancy post-1965 has always bothered me (in contrast to Malcolm's move towards moderation)... seems he couldn't handle the increased difficulties that came with the more grandiose dream of eradicating poverty with the same grace, class, and dignity.

While he was obviously a great visionary and orator who could lead like few others, I was never really impressed with King the 'man'.
