    Fuck Martin Luther King day & Black History Month - That's racist

    Why doesnt every ethnic group have a day dedicated to one of the people they feel worthy?

    Why doesnt every ethnic group have a month dedicated towards learning their history?

    Why is there no Asian History Month? No Mexican history month?

    This is very racist IMHO, We need to put a stop to singling out black men for a day, and singling out the black community for a month!

              Naw. There is black history month up here in canada too.

              The jews went through just as much (if not more) than blacks and there is no month dedicated towards them. There isnt a single jewish holiday where all govt offices are shut down.

                              the "month" thingy seems kind of dumb to me - if you want to learn about cultural heritage you should learn about it whenever you want, not during the course of one particular month of the year yea ... sort of racist (in the affirmative action kind of way) that their arent these "months" for other minorities, or crackers like me for that matter.

                              I for one fully support MLK Day (im a white dude). This guy was a bad mofo - i dont want to think of what kind of world it would be without him having lived. Its sad enough to see it in pictures and hear about it from my grandmother.

                              I agree with the essence of your statement that the minority holidays are not equally dispersed - but this is not just some holiday for blacks. This was a dude that changed America for the better, and will be in history books 1000 years from now. I consider it a holiday for myself too, and im celebrating it

                                      Cultural awareness month is a positive thing.

                                      Black history month should be categorized with Cultural awareness month. That is a month designed to learn more about your heritage and appreciate it.

                                      As far as MLK day... He was a great man with big hopes that overcame large obstacles. What he did was important and he deserves a day to be recognized.

                                      Do you think Veterans day should disappear as well? He fought just as much as they did for freedom.

His over all goal was for every man,women and clild of every race to live together in harmony. It is just a stero type that because he was a afro american man this holiday day is for the "black man. Sorry you are wrong it is for evey women,man and child. what he did and said was for all of us. Should I be ashamed because of my Jewish religion or maybe that my dad is from Portugal and my mom from morocco? I'm proud of who and what I am.

                                                                                                                                                                              Martin Luther King Jr. did a lot for the progress of Civil Right and he does deserve a day to honor that.

                                                                                                                                                                                      at no time is there a "white" holiday (you cannot count presidents day or any of that stuff) and no one gets off for the jewish holidays. you have to be jewish to take the day or days off and in most instances, you have to take a personal day rather then it being a national holiday unless you work for an all jewish company.

                                                                                                                                                                                      mlk day is considered a national holiday and febuary is a dedicated black history month whereas every other race pretty much gets nothing.

                                                                                                                                                                                      i agree there there are quite a few people who have done a lot for this country and even the world who should get the same respect for a day and/or month as mlk. why not have an einstein month or day, why not have a graham-bell month or day (he certainly did a lot for the world!); you see what i am getting at.

                                                                                                                                                                                      there's nothing "racist" perse but there is something wrong where those who have made a major inpact on the world should receive the same attention as mlk.

Name me a person representing the white, jewish, mexican, asian , ..., race and why that person should be honored for what he did in america, and then we have a discussion and a potential holiday.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Every inch of these United States was stolen not too damn long ago in the grand scheme of things. Who is white anyways? everyone is a mixture of something or originally imported from somewhere.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Im all for equal recognition of all ethnicities and not just giving black people a holiday, but to me this is a holiday for American Blacks, American Jews, American Italians, all americans... based on one specific dude, not an ethnicity or religious affiliation. MLK wanted ALL of us holding hands ... an idealist yes, but he did change shit.

The natives showed the white man how to live off the land, how to make it through the winter season. Their land was then stolen and you think they would at least get a national holiday out of it... At least they got the right to self-government although I don't think that will last too much longer since it could be deemed a terrorist threat.
