China's People's Liberation Army has outlined plans, including a nuclear conflict with the United States, to "liberate" Taiwan, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post newspaper reported Monday.
The PLA issued a 16-page publication, the Howangjio Weekly, that was devoted to Taiwan, that was sold on street corners. In contrast, most Chinese newspapers had little to say about Taiwan's pro-independence vote.

The publication included plans to send 200,000 fishing vessels with a two-million-strong invading force to take over Taiwan. It also included photographs of what it said were the most advanced secret weapons in the world. These included laser weapons to disable the U.S.-owned F-17's guidance systems, the newspaper said.

The PLA has reportedly been working on a new generation of nuclear weapons, the publication said, and it outlined steps by which China would threaten the United States with nuclear war. China would then sway U.S. public opinion by making economic concessions, and it would increase arms purchases from Russia, the Post reported.

It would then stage a limited attack on Taiwan and if that failed, China would mobilize its people into exercises that would show that it is preparing to survive a nuclear war, the newspaper said.

"The United States will not sacrifice 200 million Americans for 20 million Taiwanese and eventually they are going to back down," the publication said.

Actually my outlook isn't based on any American media reports. I haven't seen much about them in our news anyway. As far as I know they aren't a target for us. Now Iran and Syria, that's another story.

Also China's Nuclear weapons program is shit compared to the US. They have few sea(SLBMS) and air nuclear capabilities. Most of their land launch sites are not mobile and can be easily destroyed. They probably only have a total of less than 30 DF ICBMs. Compared with the US having Long range bombers,trident submarines and hundres of peacekeeper/minutemen missiles, I really don't think China is a threat. Atleast not militarily

There is a lot of bullshit flying in this thread.

First of all the PLA can barely project force outside of its own borders and its Navy is a joke. Also PLA pilots aren't trained nearly as well as Taiwanese pilots and to top it off PLA pilots use old MIG while Taiwanese pilots use modern U.S. and European aircraft. No contest.

Sure China can use nukes against us, but they know very well that is suicide. Also furthermore like someone here pointed out, Bush is pretty friendly with the Chinese and backs their "One China" policy. From a historical standpoint Taiwan is indeed part of China. I would however prefer to see Taiwan reunified once China has greater social freedoms and has a quasi republican government, which can very possibly happen within 100 years.

China doesn't expect Taiwan to reunify now, and they do tolerate Taiwan in its "limbo" state however they will not tolerate any official statement of independance. The KMT (Nationalist) Party (Think of it as Taiwan's version of the Republican Party) supports eventual reunification with the mainland. Both the U.S. Republican Party and the KMT Party are political allies. However the current president of Taiwan is not from the KMT party but rather from a different one, and he has recently gotten very radical about the independance movement. The U.S. does not support Taiwan's independance, but also does not support any use of force on China's end to reunify Taiwan.

Also China isn't a true Communist country. Since 1978 they have reformed their economic system and moved from Soviet style central planning to a market driven decentralized economy. Thus, economic freedoms are continuing to grow along side with capitalism however the poltical controls as well as social freedoms remain very restricted at the moment. If China truely was Communist and followed the bullshit Mao spewed you would never see so many products manufactured in China. Furthermore, their economy would never grow by leaps and bounds because central planning doesn't work which is why every Communist country failed. Right now it's hard to call China communist. Authoritarian and totalitarian absolutely, but not communist.

In addition, China would never allow Hong Kong to continue its capitalist system and way of life if China was truely communist.

Oh and for the person posting screenshots of Hong Kong. Please keep in mind that it was under British rule until 1997 so it's a bad example. Presently Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region and maintains a degree of automony and has its own constitution, legal system (British common law), currency, country code, and courts system. Hong Kong also maintains its own borders. So while it is part of China, there is still a border between the mainland and Hong Kong SAR.

There are lots of modern Chinese cities though. Shanghai and Guangzhou for example. Believe it or not there is a fairly large middle class in mainland China (about 400 million) that has quite a bit of spending power. They can enjoy consumer goods such as video game consoles, DVD players, mobile phones, etc. Furthermore they can traval too, and right now lots of mainlanders are traveling to HK and spending lots and lots dough. There is a huge peasent problem though, since about there are about 600 million peasents in China.

Also anyone who says that People's Liberation Army troops are more "dedicated" than American troops is a complete fucking idiot. PLA troops are conscripts and not well trained while American troops are all volunteers and very well trained. You simply cannot compare the two. The PLA does have an advantage in numbers though, but the U.S. military makes up for it in technology. Regardless it would probably not be a good idea to invade China since they might do something insane like launch their nukes once they see that we are going to make their government crumble.

This whole thread is idiotic. Both the USA and China have enough nukes to completely wipe out the other many times over. It's called Mutually Assured Destruction and that's been the case for decades. Of course the American nukes are better and more accurate, but China has enough of them to flatten the USA anyway. There will not be a planned nuclear war any time soon.
