04 is a lot better. the game play is no where near the same. play maker controls in madden 04 adds more realism to the game. you can also control defensive players a lot better in 04. call me a geek if you want but i've played football before and this is as close to realism that you will get in a video game right now. i tried the espn football series and it looks a lot better than madden but the movement is still a bit stiff and at times unrealistic. what you give up in gameplay in ESPN you get right back in visuals
how could explain a 100+ point victory in the first game I played right out of the box?
(hint: gameplay is basically the same (as i said above))
try playing the game on all madden and not rookie. i gaurantee you WONT score anything over 28 over the bucs defense nor the ravens defense. whenever you first take the game out of the box the game has the pussy settings.

Not looking for a tonne load of geek stuff, just a decent enough game to play and decent to look at...
if you want the most realistic football game then madden 04 is the way to go. if you just watn a game that looks good and is a football game then get ESPN 2k4 or Microsoft's NFL Fever.

sounds like you play games that look good but lack game play. if you own madden 04 and madden 03 then go play the madden 04 training camp and learn how the basics of the game work, then go play madden 03. if you can't figure out how much different the game is gameplay wise than you shouldn't purchase another EA sports game ever
2004 has a couple nice things with the owners option and play maker, but there is alot of technical errors in the gameplay. Horrible instant replay decisions. The refs mouth moves badly when speaking. Voiceovers keep saying 6 interceptions even if you have 10.
I was playing Madden '04 yesterday and the computer totally fucked me over...
I sacked the QB, but as he got sacked, he threw the ball, and the game flashed "fumble". My cornerback caught it in the air and ran it back for a touchdown. The computer challenged the "fumble" and the call was overturned so they kept the ball.
Totally full of messed up glitches like that, but still the best football game on the market.
