Can you encode straight from Betacam tapes?

Most of my Players Ball is taped in high beta and DV (bigger, not mini).

If you can, let's do this.

If not, I'll need to have them converted to mini DV's

Can't you just play it through the camera and use a capture device to import via firewire to (Avid)? I'm new to video encoding still so i'm not sure.... ?
