I think the big problem is they are hard to find. (at least around here)

If you could get them around here at all, the Indians would be selling them on the local reserves, since they sell illegal handguns like they are going out of style, but I've never heard tell of anyone getting their hands on a silencer.

I know the local hillbilly deer poachers would love to get them for their rifles when they go out spotlighting.

I've never even seen one except on TV, magazines, etc.

In order for a silencer to be effective, you also have to use a low powered cartridge. What good is a silencer when the projectile is breaking the sound barrier?

A lower powered cartridge has less range and penetrating power also, making a silenced rifle pretty much ineffective.

Also most automatics release a great deal of sound when the recoil operates the action, alot of sound comes out of the breach during this process.

a .50 cal pistol round is a slow velocity bullet and could do some serious damage (close range of course) but i dont think a silencer is gonna help much. Plus they are illegal which was already brought up
