You do not need a booth. It really depends on your people skills:
If you have good people skills, purchase a floor ticket and go to every booth and just say hi, ask what and where everyone will be.
If you don't like talking to people, hire someone who is to do it for you
I always try to meet new people at shows, so anyone trying to get business accomplished is not likely to turn down meeting new people.
