We live in Russia!!!

With all the new laws being passed in the US I'm starting to feel like we live in the old Russia.
I can't believe my thoughts; I've been considering living in another country. I just don't know how to go about it.
I started in South Carolina then New York then LA and Now Hawaii. I guess I'm trying to get out of the country and don't even know it.

Call me paranoid, I don't care. I just keep thinking that some how I will be sent to jail for drawing interracial cartoons.

I have this constent fear that I will be doing something that seems completly innocent but it will violate some new law that I have no idea about and I will get locked up for 10 years or some shit.

I'm getting scared as hell about living in America.

I guess living in America you dont really notice it tho but i can tell you, me as an outsider i never seen the US change this much (in a scary, bad way) as in the last 2 years.

Yep, a few of my Russian friends who came to the US many years ago are telling me the same things. They are still remember old Soviet times and now they see something similar in the US. Two friends already moved to Canada. They noticed a big press of propaganda in the USA. They also told me that new Russia now resembling the old USA and vice versa.

you guys are so dead wrong! The united states, despite it's problems, is one of the most liberal nations in the world. If you were in porn, you would be crazy not to want to be in this country. But it's not just the liberty, it's the enforcement and due process of law. Dont get me wrong, there have to rules or else a country would go to shit but honestly, i traveled to A LOT of countries and America was by far the worst country when it comes to big brother. I feel better crossing the Thai border than the American border...which should be the other way around.

So if you are looking for freedom and democracy - go to old good Europe (not to UK, which is just a 51'st state of the US). Go to the real Europe such as the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium etc. There no one will repeat over and over again that you are free and you are living in the free country (like it reiterated in some countries) because you will be really free there!!!

As about Russia, so now it more and more close to the old Europe. It still away from the Netherlands and Germany but it at least moves in that direction.

I have met a scary number of adults here who think that England is still ruled by the Queen and that the USA is the only country with 'Freedom' or 'Democracy' or toilet paper. They do try to give you that impression.

Call it patriotism or propaganda, but this country is more fanatically in love with itself than any other. It really puts itself on a pedastool. Flags on everything. Declarations of 'Land of the Free, Home of the Brave', 'These Colors Don't Run', and other silly solgans on billboards. Businesses even whore out 911 in radio commercials, using patriotism to push product. Politicans compete with eachother on how many times they can incorporate the phrase 'Greatest Nation On Earth' into their speeches. It would border on bizarre if you weren't so used to it.

So of course, with all that around them, a lot of people believe it.

But all the flag-waving and rhetoric would be no more than annoying, if not for the fact that it is blinding the population to abuses of power. America is not a facist regime Yet. I don't know that it ever could be. But they are certainly putting the tools in place to make that a possibility. And that's far more significant than the particular individual who happens to take office.

Tough question.
Clark could do really well, but he lacks political experience and proper preparation.
Dean seems to have the best chance of becoming the democratic candidate, but he probably has less chance than Clark of defeating Bush.

Dean with Clark as his running mate would probably be the Democrats' best bet. Dean needs Clark's military credibility in the current situation, and Clark needs Dean's political experience.

The problem is that there aren't any Democrats with real appeal. Some could do well as VP's, but none have a presidential image. Although that could still change during the campaign, it's a pretty big problem.

The one thing that the Democrats have on their side is the aversion against Bush most liberals have. I suspect more will vote than usual, and many who would otherwise vote for the Green Party will vote Democratic simply to drive Bush out of office. It's doubtful if that will be enough though.
