I agree with Aaron, Cube is better lyrically. Snoop has a nicer flow, but he never usually raps about anything other then having fun.
I'm not knocking Snoop. Doggystyle is one of the best albums of all time. I can't say the same for any of Cube's albums.

Here is a challange, think real hard and then try to repeat at least half a verse of a current rap song and also an old one. I bet you can not even understand half of what they are saying and even if it was written down for you the terminology and things they are talking about go completely over your head. It is interesting how people often dislike things they get frustrated with because it is not easily understood by them.
Rap tells a story about things that happen in urban life, it is clear and concisive story telling with plots, character development rising action and often resolution but uses dialect that you may not be able to understand, this does not in anyway make it any less musical than other forms. For instance I can not connect with some whinny kid talking about how his gf dumped him and the world is shit and everything is dark and there is only pain, not trying to hear that. Likewise you can probably not connect to the lifestyles they talk about in any way, does not mean shit on it.
I also challange you to write an kind of story by constantly rhyming words from the english language, then if you can do that I want you to set it to a beat that keeps people's heads bobbing, then I want you to verbally tell me that story while keeping up with the beat and using vocal styling.......even ADULTS need TOYS

yeah the same thing was said 20, 15 and 10 years ago but it just gets stronger and stronger as lyracists get wittier and wittier.
I have studied music for years, basically if you are not talking about operatic orchestral compesition, big band, blues or jazz you are talking about a severly watered down version of music. I hope you do not think the repeditive playing of minor keys with sporatic key and time signatures accompanied by a screaching singer or a whinny post pubecent idealistic matched by a dime a dozen bass player with very little understanding of his roll and a drummer who would not know a rudament if it bit him on the ass and covers up his lack of talent by using double bass and floor to mock the bass guitar and high hat/china/ ride and snare to follow the pitches of the lead guitar and singer is REAL music.
I have taught percussion including melodics/piano to kids for years now and it never ceases to amaze me that most kids who listen to "music" can not even clap on the beat and have very little musical originality. Music is dying in my opinion, every day we loose true musicians and there are less and less to replace them. Most popular bands can only do one thing well enough to get signed and sell a single and are not true musicians, this is why you hear little maturity or progression in their albums and more and more you see one hit wonders coming out of bands. To each his own but please let's not bag on something because we do not understand or connect and then call it musical opinion as it is not based on musical knowledge.even ADULTS need TOYS
