As if there are never problems buying from bricks-and-mortar businesses...
I have been buying online for several years, everything from coffee to carpets. It's a terrific way to save money and - if you live in a rural area like I do - often the only way to buy some things at all.
I have received a couple of cigarette deliveries in which one or two packs were slightly damaged: the company replaced the full order free of charge each time. There was a delay once with some VHS tapes that had to be converted from PAL to NTSC: they let me know and because I chose not to cancel the order, they sent me a free tape.
The only time I (almost) had a bad experience was with furniture.com, but I got that resolved courtesy of the FBI complaints website (and shortly after I got my money back, the company went bust).
