Yes, you can't tar everyone with the same brush man.
It's the small minded sponsors that shave, we don't do it and never would, why shave from a sponsor, it's better to actually give him a few more $$$ rather than take take take.
The way i see it if we did shave, where is that going to end up??
Pissed of webmasters that don't wanna work with you, i would preffer to give extra and happy webmasters making good $$$ will try and push a good honest program harder.

I decided a long time ago not to even bother whether sponsors shave or not. I just look at my checks...if they justify the effort, money and time I put into promoting that particular sponsor, I'm happy.Converting like a mofoComment

Well it just seems to me that alot of sponsors lately are getting caught with doing this. So quite a few of them think its kool.

Look at the outcry on GFY every time someone's suspected of shaving, but it still happens.
Without actually breaking in to sponsor's accounts and checking out there affiliate software, there's no way I'm ever going to know for certain. Sure, I get pissed off if I know I'm getting ripped off, but if I can't do anything about it, I might as well avoid the stomach ulcers and not worry about it.
If you know how to sell, the sponsor shaving the most is gonna bring in the least ROI, so I just eliminate him from my list.Converting like a mofoComment

Simply need to use a sponsor with 3rd party stats.SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.Comment

I could probally short them a few dollars here and there .

The root causes of shaving, in my opinion, are either a poor business plan or a poor product.
Paying $35 when you are taking in less than $3 (minus processing fees, etc) means that you either need a really good product or business plan. That includes things like consoles, upsells, etc. You need to cover that initial investment as quickly as possible.
People with bullshit members areas, or who don't spend the time refining their consoles/cross sales/upsells/etc have every reason to shave.
Sadly, affiliate fraud is also a big factor. Carders still exist in droves, I know at least a couple programs who had to kill some of their 'bigger' affiliates to bring CB ratios down, and figured out afterwards they were carders, and had been carding for ages.
So there are many factors, but really it's just a numbers game. Sell a good product, and/or have a solid business plan, and you can do fine without a shave. The industry is partially responsible, constantly jacking payouts up to stay competitive, but it's mostly on the shoulders of the people who run the program(s).
