It is apparently a 16 min. exposure; thise aren't shooting stars, but the normal progression of stars in the sky over 16 minutes. The shooting stars, as explained by Rowan, didn't show up in the photo because in a 16 min. exposure, a 1 second flash of light is nothing, especially if the moon is out (as apparently was the case in this pic).
Nevertheless, it is a pretty cool pic

I'm really surprised that the colors came out as vivid as they did under 16 mins. of moonlight.
