Where exactly in Argentina are you going?

I moved from the US to Argentina about 5 months ago. Have had no problems at all, except for language issues. I'm not very good with spanish (yet).

I'm in Buenos Aires. If you're going to be in the city, you'll have no problems at all. Most major stores and even a lot of the smaller ones will accept US dollars for everything. There's also places all over the city to exchange money. Currently the rate is between 2.9 and 3 pesos for each $1.

If you know some spanish you'll do fine, if you don't, it'll be a little more difficult, but if you ask around you can usually find someone who speaks english. It's taught in most of the schools here, so just about everyone knows at least some english even if they can't speak it very well.

Getting around is no problem, there are cabs and busses everywhere. The city of Buenos Aires is basically like NY. You can stand on the street anywhere and grab a cab within a minute or two.

They have no problems with Americans. Most people I've talked to actually get a big smile and start asking all kinds of questions when I tell them I'm from the US.

Basically just use the same common sense you'd use in any city. If it doesn't look too safe down one street, walk around it. Don't be flashing large amounts of cash on the street.

There are fairly regular protests here in certain areas of the city around government buildings. If you happen to run into one of those, it's best to try to avoid it. Most are no big deal, but occasionally there is violence and the police can be a little crazy, so you don't want to get caught in the middle of that.

And make sure you have your passport on you at all times. If you want to buy anything with a credit card, ID is required, so they will ask to see your passport.

That's about all I can think of. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask...
