because black is a dark color and sets into the skin easier

if you have a very light color say such as yellow it has to be inked in deeper so the color stays in.

I have a huge yellow star on my right shoulder blade and it was a lot deeper than any other of my tatts.
Actually when the tattooist saw the design they freaked that i'd contemplate having that much yellow done - but i fell asleep on the table - i love getting inked! so relaxing.
