Biggest issues in adult to see major play in the 04

So what issues stand out that you think will see major play in this coming year. For me I think of COPA being addressed by the Supreme Court in the first half of the year. ACACIA and their fake ass patents, VISA and seeing what they might do, be it becoming more restrictive of content and wording, raising fees, or lowering chargeback rates again, and lastly in case I forgot something the re election of our King George Bush who will no longer have to worry about a campaign and can bring the heat all the way on us.

What do you think and think of these issues and how will they impact you and or the biz as a whole?

I think you will see a rise in use for non US billers, hosting, sponsors, etc. Starting to make way to much sense to move offshore.

If their was an offshore host that would step up and offer prices comparible to rackshack or somebody like that a lot of people would take their business elsewhere
Expect nothing, you will not be disappointed.

No one offshore will ever try to compete with rackshack not worth it.

The upcoming Supreme Court ruling will be the biggest event of the year for U.S. webmasters.

So does everyone see ACACIA as a non issue already? Do we not think that COPA may in fact become more of a case than it was intended to be since the supreme count took it on while still in court? It's possible that they define the internet and how local obscenity laws apply to the web, that could be huge.

                            agreed.

you will see some DOJ busts of certain types of content, if it appears that bush will be re-elected, and recent events indicate he probably will be. any bust for ordinary hardcore will result in acquittals.

microbilling will arrive, and there will be a faster roll-out of new niche websites.

and you will see more websites tailored towards female surfers

no Acacia is not a non-issue. but is an issue that will resolve itself. and it will resolve itself in a way that will surprise many.

the COPA issue is important. we are just beginning to see what is happening to spammers who use UCE. the main reason for new federal laws with some teeth is that a bunch of guys took it upon themselves to foist hardcore porn into people's email boxes.

that infuriated people, as it rightly should. my elderly mother and my minor children all have email accounts. i don't want them opening a trick email and seeing some gal sucking a donkey dick.

if you don't have your sites labeled with ICRA or have some other means to protect the unsuspecting from being surprised by porn be prepared to pay the cost when you inflame people that can pass laws.

you don't make $ by pissing people off.

Thank you, I'm looking for more intelligent discussion of ideas on the biz, but it seems most don't care until it's hitting their wallets hard. Personally I think that COPA in the Supreme Court is going to be much much more interesting than many are yet envisioning because they are going to step out of the box of what people expect and make a ruling that's going to have weight and carry over to many other facets of the biz.

I wonder if the whole "increase transactions via lower subscription rate strategy" will work.

I think it could work, but I don't always believe that low price is the key to sales. I think value in the money you charge is and saturation of your content as well. Most major sponsors that I have ever checked out have shitty sites and they're getting rich, well they allow deceptive tactics, blind links, spam and every other type of shit you can think of, now the rules don't say you can do it. But we all know the rules are only for people that aren't making a lot of money. If you can make a lot of sales scamming and fucking people then you can always negotiate a better set of rules for yourself.

I personally am hoping that COPA can affect in some way TGP and freesites and that they can be targeted in the near future as they are the shit and scum of the industry that have become a necessary evil for the moment.

true, but the problem is COPA, or any USA law will have difficulty controlling what the rest of the world does.

we have some lawmakers that don't understand that the internet is an international medium.

as long as there are money collection systems that the USA cannot control, and as long as the world can connect to these sources, anything and everything that you can imagine will be available online.

the genie is out of the bottle.

Yeah well it's a given that you can never control the world but just to put a beating on the US group of webmasters that are giving porn away for free and hardcore even would be good enough to start for me,

I don't think that's true, COPA is old and the Supreme Court didn't accept to rule on it based on the old case they accepted based on the impact and wide ranging possibilities that it might have. As it is right now you don't go to a store and have the nudie mags right out in the open for kids to pick up and read, or at the video store the xxx movies aren't sitting there next to the new releases. They are behind some small measure that ensures that almost totally it's adults viewing it. TGP and freesites take no responsibility on ensuring that minors don't get access even if in a very small way. I'm not against free speech but I am in favor of some small measures against protecting of viewing of adult material by people not adult.

However with all that being said what COPA originally was in using credit cards to verify everything is overstepping the boundaries and it's not going to be decided totally on that basis anymore since that's old. And yes it really should be about better parenting above all else.

The Supreme Court is not a boogie man. The ruling is coming in a few months. You should either have a plan to deal with possible changes in the law or you should have a plan for how to spend your time in jail.

You will never earn enough money to pay lawyers in the US.

I expect another Patent Company to come here with a BS patent. It's been way too easy for the boss of Acacia to make $300,000 in a few months for it not to happen again.

If COPA goes to far it will be fought by the First Amenment people, but consumers will always pay for porn no matter what the level is they can view.

Visa is another matter, while we have rip off sites making us look like a bunch of scam artists Visa will be watching us and thinking of ways to protect their customers. Again they know that if they make the CB level 1/2% the sites that can meet it will bring in the bacon and the others will lose out. The number of surfers spending money will not decrease.

Of course the ACACIA thing will be a big impact, but also the most stricly porn regulation over the Net wich will come up now in Germany. It looks like millions of porn sites will be banned by the providers and the search engines (even Google) have to throw out the porn pages
