Regardless of what Shemp chooses to do, GFY is funny. Almost everyone was against the Paris Hilton scam in the other threads, now suddenly people love it?

1998 --- "Popping links in new windows is WRONG! It pisses off the surfer!"
2000 --- "Blind thums are WRONG! They mislead & piss off the surfers!! (especially when you open the link in a new window!)"

2004 --- "Promoiting Paris Hilton is BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"
Shemp is master of his domain. You are master of yours (if you have one). I am master of mine. As such, we control what we link to, we control what we DON'T link to, and we control what we choose to promote.
Respect.
The best advice on this thread so far is from the guy who said "mind your own business". The formula is simple really.... link to what you like, don't link to what you don't like. The end.

How were the conversions back is 2000?
Would you made as much many with 1000 surfers back than as you would today?
there is a difference between having integrity with your fellow webmasters and jerking around surfers. sad to say pretty much everyone on this board jerks surfers around one way or another.
the best you can hope for is honor among thieves, and from everything i've ever heard or read Shemp is a standup guy when it comes to fellow webmasters.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR.
Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

Exactly..Or else some 19 yearold knob will start a thread questioning your ethics
It's ok to partner with and profit from known scammers. It's just not ok to run the actual scam yourself.
Don't actually steal the content or cheat anyone yourself, but support and profit from others who do.
If anyone has a problem with it, refer back to the wisdom provided in this thread that they should "mind their own business", it is your site and you can do anything you want to on it.

This Paris Hilton thing is NOT porn. I've had a hard time understanding why it is even in our arena.
I focus on what people will actually jerk off to for a buck.
Oh well back to some more coffee and cinamin toast.
1. Refering to quiet's thread about the topic of promoting the Paris Video, that eventually spiraled into an outright slander fest. There was a group of people throwing down the gauntlet, now the same 'crowd' has changed their mind, and it is now deemed 'ok'.
2. Repeatedly, on this board, people choose to make it their business judging how others make money. Never judge or question how another person makes their money, it is none of your business.
#2 is just a basic rule of life, not particular to this industry.
In the end all you really have is your integrity. If you can wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror and feel good about yourself you don't have to answer to anyone else.
Cept maybe the FTC.

It's No wonder I took up drugs and alcohol, it's the only way I could dumb myself down enough to cope with the morons in this biz.

Exactly why I am not HUGE in success.
I value the "Look In The Mirror" more than money.
Originally posted by JSA Matt It is probably a bad idea on shemps behalf becuase by now, everyone knows its a scam. He is going to lose those loyal bookmarkers that rely on him to provide quality sites (his traffic quality is going to go down). Too little, too late.
I have to tell you this "mind your own business "thing is what got us 1% cb ratio's. When someone is scamming customers, (Visa and Mastercards customers ) it is very short sighted if you think its only their problem or business. Those actions effect our business, if one too many scams or fucked up cross sells cause Visa to go to .5 % , its not only the webmaster who did it's problem, no its my problem at that point. If you plan to be in this business for more than 6 months it is your business anything that is not correct because cc companies will come down on us all.

Let's just be real most of the guys making a decent amount of cash in this biz don't give a fuck about what happens to the biz as a whole, they'll just pick up and work their shitty ethics to their favor anywhere they can. To think they actually care about what happens anymore than how it impacts their wallets immediately is not realistic.
hmmmm...probebly would of been the smart thing to do.
hehe, the way you spout your mouth off around here its obvious your no authority on "smart"....better to be thought a fool by all than to prove you are an idiot by opening your mouth.
This thread is full of people licking Shemp's ass. Oracle Porn asked our thoughts and everyone says its Shemps site blah blah. Say what you really think about it.
I personally don't know who the fuck is Paris Hilton anyway and what's this video shit all about.

Some would blame the webmasters, as you have done, others look at all parties who make a situation worse. I could go on for 100+ pages on this issue, and have previously.
Everyone assumes the Paris site is a scam, have you bought a membership and did not receive the movie as promised? I do not know, as I have not joined the site, but over the years I have developed the ability not to follow the pack nor crucify people unjustly. Especially on issues, that other people feel the need to sensationalize.
To further your comments, which I feel are one sided. What role do/did the 3rd party processors play in the 'destruction' you assert? Who developed cross-sales which you mention as a destructive force (I disagree with you as the concept is just, the implementation issues could be argued)? Who originally did not send out subscription information via e-mail? Who sold databases of information, including credit card numbers which were then 're-processed'? What processor(s) bent over backwards to get processing for KP? A quote un-quote scammer or webmaster with fraudulent intent can not exist without processing. In life the processors could be deemed 'enablers'.
Lastly, your post furthers the mindset that everyone is dirty except for the person vocalizing. The 1% issue is due to many, many issues none of which can be pinned on one person, one company, nor one certain time frame. This industry has come along way since 1996 and this is merely one of the things that has evolved over the last 8 years. Name one other industry that does not receive 'regulatory' attention, whether by state government, federal government, industry groups, or the buying public. Even VISA realizes there are bad apples, thus everyone seals their own fate, which at this point I can count the people on one hand that have been shut down.
I am not condoning any supposed schemes, or anything that a reasonable person would deem has truly hurt this industy. The fact remains that the judgemental attitude and divisive tactics being used are pointless.
Don't you think it's a bad move?
If you were a surfer... you visited shemp everyday and you signed up thru him to the paris hilton site...than saw the cheap ass 4 min video and paid $200 for it...
Would you ever signed up to any porn sites anymore? I know I wouldn't.
The difference between you and shemp is shemp makes money, you don't. Why do you even question what he does? It's not your site. If you saw how much money you could make with that ad, you would promote it too. The funny thing is, I doubt adstats would even give you an account to promote that site, since you're a newbie and don't have any websites/traffic. I've been using adstats since June last year and have made a shit load with them and at least $30k with the paris ad.
I'm surprised with the number of people that are in this business for the quick bucks. Anybody that thinks this Hilton thing won't have any effect on this industry is kidding himself. The same people will come crying later when credit card processors and/or governments start regulating even more this industry, making things harder for everybody. This matter is everybody's business, because it will affect all of us at some point..

They're virtually all in it for the quick buck. All money isn't smart money, but they aren't looking for longevity and they don't give a fuck about the industry. It's all good though, there are always people like that in every biz not just adult.

haha, I am not against Shemp, but your attitude isn't right.
I could be getting high SE rankings for the keyword "lolita" and selling memberships to LEGAL underage teen "model sites" and thus making more money than you, if you were a simple gallery submitter.
But you would still have the right to question my behavior.
