I don't recall Iraq having any laws about "freedom of the press".

CNN just ran a correction; the office will be closed, the station will remain on the air. Not sure how that helps national security, it's the TV signal that most people encounter, not the office.

they should have secretly closed it, put in some fake workers that are really agents, and monitor those that drop off those tapes

Isn't it broadcast via satellite from another country anyways? Shutting down the office does nothing.

Nothing surprising .... It is not available in the US either... remember the POW episode ... banned in the states...

The airwaves are there to promote the people in power: BUSH and the gang.....

On a bright side, time to start abusing prisonners again
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

What they don't say is that the journalists also probably are also getting shut down....

And from were they are going to braodcast? Tapes will have to be shipped at a far location, so creating a delay to report the news....

and this is EXACTLY why people like me support alternate methods of protesting.

the opposing forces already in power against the common man and law, peace has already been broken between all classes and authority.

when i turn on the news all i see is urban war coverage.

It's chaos there, the goverment needs to think about the securitysituation first, then the freedom of press.

Maybe the iraqi government doesn't think their ppl really need to see 1000 kidnapermessages per week? Or every new statement by al-quaida?

Im all for a free press, but it's not the biggest issue in iraq right now. It's still a warzone, they need to get it under controll so ppl can live normal lives.

The major US networks, including the wall-to-wall-war station CNN, and even the public broadcasting network bowed to Mr Rumsfeld's pressure and suppressed the video. CNN ran only a freeze frame from the al-Jazeera Arab cable station, with nothing to identify any soldier.

At US Central Command's forward headquarters in Qatar, the deputy commander, General John Abizaid, told the reporter from al-Jazeera: "I'm very disappointed that you would portray those pictures of our servicemen. I saw that, and I would ask others not to do that."

At a decisive time for both the country and the media, the US television companies caved in to Government pressure
