I have relatives that work for the government(customs) and the sunday before christmas I was having lunch by their house, during that time they got a phone call and then started making calls to other people pulling them off of their leave and telling them to stay alert.. they've been working around the clock since that day..

That would be the perfect time and place for these idiots to run into the crowd with bombs strapped to their chests. It'd be kinda hard to detect such unless they have lots of trained dogs sniffing around..

TimesSquare can be risky, but in reality how many people can they really kill. Say some dude has a bomb in a bag. Maybe a few people deep in every direction will be killed. Couple dozen at best. Not really a big score.

I think everything will go smoothly though.
