I personally think it tastes like liquid sweettarts. One of my friends that is 28 went into cardiac arrest (sp?) after drinking 6 of them in a 3 hour period. The doctors attributed the attack on the redbull, however, to have a heart attack that early in life points to problems down the road IMO.

It has *less* caffeine than coffee. Red Bull contains 286 mg/L of caffeine, while coffee contains 500-600 mg/L of caffeine.
The amount of sugar in a can comes down to about 5 teaspoons, which isn't really all that much.
Taurine is something that is found in many foods, and while it's a nutrient that may be essential, there is no clear evidence that consuming large amounts of it has any additional effect whatsoever. In fact, it's known that excess taurine is pissed out.
If a single can of Red Bull has any significant effect on you, I'm afraid chances are that that's the placebo effect at work.
As for your friend... I don't know what else he had that evening, but drinking 6 cups of coffee within a short period of time isn't a great idea with a bad heart anyway.
