I do understand how it works, but what I don't understand is...

I receive junk mail to [email protected] (I don't own scat.com) and looking at the headers, it is obvious to see that the TO is spoofed. Same story for [email protected] (considering I do own mydomain.com and that mydomain.com DOESN'T have wildcard forwarding), upon looking at the headers, it's easy to see that it's spoofed and it's obvious that for everyone else receiving the spam, they're getting it to [email protected].

But looking at the headers here, I don't see anything like that, it looks clean.

    Don't give up on me.

    edit

The tech guy just changed the settings so that any mail addressed to adultrevenueservice@ will bounce. If it's the genuine TO address, I shouldn't be getting any more.

If it's spoofed, I'll continue to get it.

    Let's see...

It is a pain in the ass but believe me I've experienced it (and had someone hollering about my company too, in error though it got cleared up). In future, if you're going to make a special email address just for a sponsor or something, make it something obscure that only you know about, because using the name of the sponsor or business has become a commonplace tool in spamming these days. A lot of people are trying to see where their email addresses are going, so they create sponsor-specific addresses that are too obvious. In the end, the sponsor or company gets the blame for something that is really at the feet of smarter-than-average spammers
