Personally, I hope Iran manages to build a nuclear arsenal for a number of reasons:

1. Israel and the USA would no longer enjoy absolute power over the region. This will lead to a more peaceful middle east.

2. It guarantees that nobody will ever go to war with Iran.

3. Our government will be forced to stop bullying Iran and actually treat them with respect, just like they do with North Korea and Pakistan.

4. It will be fun watching the Jews whine and complain and say "never again" 50,000 times on tv.

Wrong..oh so wrong. Iran is a nation in a state of change right now. The middle and upper class are getting tired of the mullahs and the heavy handed censorship. The young people have been openly revolving AGAINST the government. There have been MASSIVE demonstrations against the government. And the ONLY thing keeping the Mullahs in power is the military. And there have been many reports that the military is starting to lose it's incentive to go out and brutally put down these demonstrations.

The President of Iran is a "moderate" who is doing the best he can under difficult situations to move the country away from it's anti-west stature.

If you go the major cities of Iran, you will see women openly defying the Muslim demands for dress, and dressing in a very "Western" manner. This goes for the guys too. Not to mention the many western businesses that are open and flourishing in that country.

The people are tired of the old men that have run this country for the last 24 years. And while I'm not for an American invasion of Iran, I would say that in Iran, there would be MORE support from the people for the overthrow of their government than we have seen so far in Iraq!

Nuclear weapons have only been used once during war, and their use actually saved millions of lives.

Instead of launching a conventional invasion of Japan that would have cost millions of lives, the Japs surrendered quickly after having a couple of small nukes dropped on them.

I also guarantee that the US and USSR would have gone to war at some point during the Cold War if it wasn't for the fact that each side had nuclear weapons.

Given all the tension, animosity, and saber rattling between the two superpowers, the only thing that kept the peace were the nukes.

Also take a look at India and Pakistan. A couple of years ago they were about to go to war (again), but because each side now has nukes, they're more willing to sit at the bargaining table.
