        It's in "The Silmarillion"

        He got the ring 'Narya', which was one of the elven rings of power.

        I found a 'Tolkien Wiki' on the web yesterday. I found it because I was curious about Aragorn - since the extended version of the 2nd movie reveals he's almost 80 years old. I haven't read LOTR in almost 20 years.

        The link to the wiki site is below. The amazing thing is the HUGE amount of detail Tolkien put into the history of everything. You can find all kinds of interesting facts, like Gandalf being one of the oldest members of middle earth, etc.

        It is a treasure trove for LOTR geeks, of which I am (newly) one. The movies really rekindled my interest in it all.

            Looks cool, thanks for the link! I couldn't get into the Simarillion.. too dry after all the swashbuckling adventure of the Hobbit and the LOTR.

            If you like detailed backstory and fully developed social systems, I highly recommend the Dune series by Frank Herbert. Please avoid the "prequels" by his nephew, though. They're awful.

                Yeah, I read them all as well - 20 years ago, not long after LOTR.

                    I just saw ROTK again today for the second time and was even more impressed this time around, if thats possible.......

                    I am extremely picky on movies and like only the classics, like Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Ikuru (by Akira Kurosawa), Citizen Kane, etc etc.........

                    This one outdid them all.

                            A very special movie, Overlord.......I will be attending for a 3rd time very soon..........from beginning to end, this movie takes you places in a sweeping fashion.

                            Tolkien was in WWI and wrote LOTR (all 3 movies are really only one, broken into three parts, like the books) when his son was in WWII and he was deeply upset by this. They are about these events in the 20th Century mostly, the most important events that set up what was to follow. There is something we can all learn from this.

                            It was brilliant.
