Damn that's harsh.... I can certainly empathize with your loss, as my dog's time is coming. He's nearly 14 now.

Woody is my bestest friend. He just turned 6 and I can't imagine the day when he passes. Golden's are amazingly gentle friends. My advice is to go now and adopt a new puppy. It won't replace the pain of loss you have now, but puppies kick ass and are fountains of joy. Here's my boy:
