Anyways. I agree with what many have said here. I'd set your virtual memory to 1024 mb max and minimum. This will lower disk fragmentation, 'cause the swap file won't be changing constantly, and moving other files around.

Open Task Manager. Look at the Performance tab. Memory Usage. Is it greater than the amount of RAM in your machine?
If it is, you are swapping in and out of virtual memory, a painfully slow process. Add some RAM.it only took one brick to make that window dropComment

This is true. Clear your cache, do a disk cleanup, and defrag it. Go through the whole damn thing. Then defrag once every couple of weeks. It'll take only a few minutes after the first one.Originally posted by jimthefiend

And don't tell me about "takes forever on large hard drives". I'm running two 80 gig drives and it takes me fifteen minutes to defrag them when I do it on a regular basis.

I've got a 40 gig and a 60 gig drive. As long as i'm doing it weekly, it takes less than an hour. And part of that is my computer waiting for me to come back to tell it to do the next drive while i'm off making tea.
