Where do they get the information from that actually warrants a colour scale?

I don't want to sound like a hater, but couldn't it just be Bush and his cronies sitting in his office deciding what to change the colour to every week while watching reruns of saturday night live?

Everytime they raise the alert level, it gets dropped again. You'd think with all the stuff the US is doing, it'd be a constant red (ie, hide under your bed with a tinfoil hat)

It figures that terrorists would try to scare American's at Christmas time. First of all, Christmas is the happiest time of the year for most Americans, plus religously it stands for everything that they are against. I don't think anything will happen. I'm not saying it won't, but I think maybe they are just trying to frighten us and ruin the holidays for us.

In reality how does knowing the terror alert color help you the avg citizen? Also if they spend the time and money going after Bin ladden the terrorist mastermind instead of going after a paper tiger Saddam. We would have alot less of these problems.

It isn't really meant for the average citizen, it's just meant for law enforcement personnel and homeland security personnel, but everyone in the U.S. is nosey and feels that they need to know everything the government is up to all the time. So once one person finds out about the threat level, everyone demands that the government make a statement about it.

And alot of people want to know the threat level so they can stay home and make plans "just in case". It's that kind of thinking that lets the terrorists have their small victories.
