But he is not immune from speech...we're not going to be able to cover every single scenario we all know if a cop is trying to arrest someone and you are getting involved you're going to get taken down too.

But we're discussing something in the context of free speech here. A cop is not immune from general free speech, comments etc.

You are an idiot who probably lives somewhere other than the U.S.

Making fun of George W. Bush "undermines" his authority just as much as making fun of a copy "undermines" his.

They are both the government. You either have the right to call Bush an idiot and a cop a pig or you don't.

I am starting to wonder if you are even an American? We know you make things up all the time, what if you aren't even from the U.S.?

If in private conversation..you called Senator Clinton a "bitch"...you could get away with it. If in public you addressed Senator Clinton and called her a "bitch" you would be subject to arrest.

Now I know you are joking.

Did you ever go to any anti-Clinton protests during the 90's?

Have you ever been to any poltical event in your life?

Have you ever watched news other than Fox?

That does not negate the fact that people were arrested for disturbing the peace or still can be arrested for disturbing the peace if they are involved in a peaceful protest.

Now regarding protests and permits this is from the ACLU website:

The First Amendment says that you can't be denied a permit or subjected to special conditions because of your message. It also says that to minimize the possibility that hostility to your message will infect the process, permit laws must have "neutral criteria" for deciding when permits will be refused or marches limited.

However, a surprising number of cities still have laws which appear to give officials almost arbitrary power to limit protests or deny permits altogether. Even if a permit law is invalid, you generally must apply for the permit and follow the process through to challenge it later.

And if you think local government hasn't ever denied someone the right to protest you're sadly mistaken.

A couple of months ago I was in a grocery store...a customer in a check out line got into an argument with the cashier...and in the course of the argument he called the cashier a "stupid fucking bitch"...another custormer who happened to be an off duty police officer (which is a misnomer as a police officer is never off duty and is in fact a police officer 24/7) arrested the male customer and took him away.

I repeat...combatative speech and profanity are illegal in every jurisdiction that I am aware of.

But you could argue that to call a police officef a "fucking pig" could be political speech since military, police and other government officials have been called "pigs" for years.

Peaceful protests...do not usually fall into the realm of "disturbing the peace"...but many "peaceful" prostests are not exactly "peaceful".

Now regarding protests and permits this is from the ACLU website:

Cities have laws that do appear to give officials almost arbitrary power to place restrictions and limitations on protest within reason...and of course the reason is that the City fathers have an obligation to maintain overall peace and tranquility in their city...and this is as it should be.

And one can just as easily argue that it is combative speech...public profanity...and undermining a Police Officer's authority in the daily performance of his duty...which in every jurisdication I am aware of is against the law.
