Honestly the best thing you can give during anytime not just the holidays is not your $$ it's your time. Save the money or do both, go somewhere and do a little volunteer work, hang out with some kids, an old folks home playing games, a homeless shelter serving food. a battered womens shelter or spending time with the kids at a childrens hospital. Sure we can all give money, but if we really care we give time.
I would go for the dogs and cats myself.. People do not say thank you any more. Ans when it is a thing where the kid goes into the room, to pick out a toy, the mother or father is always saying to get the biggest thing that they can. Even if the kid does not want it.
By the way on top of what I just posted a minute ago, I would like to say a big fuck you to all of you that think you should donate to fucking dogs and cats over real people during these times or any time of the year.

that should not be embarassing at all, give your time webgurl it will be more valuable and more appreciated than money ever could be. I'm sure with your smile and personality you could light up some peoples hearts this holiday.
As well we have this subsidy program here in vancity where for every i think $2.50 you can buy a homeless person a christmas dinner meal
so i think i can feed a nice amount of people for couple hundred dollars .

you're very welcome, but i think people miss that it's not about money hun, it's about time. i mean what is a toy for a kid if he has no one to share and play with it with, a meal if you have no one to eat it with and talk to, time is the greatest gift we all have so you don't even have to worry about the money, just spend some time with people who need someone in their lives to give them hope and see that there is really kindness out there worth living for.
I suggested a Humane Society or shelter because it is my pet cause. No pun intended. You wouldn't believe the dedication and sacrifice of shelter volunteers. The only money my local shelter gets from the government is 2 prisoners to work 5 days a week helping with cleaning and maintenance. We take in 250 - 300 animals a month, and rely solely on donations and volunteers.
Just last weekend, I was one of Santa's helpers for Santa Claws photos at PetsMart. Our shelter got $5 for each picture purchased. 3 of us worked all day to make $310.00. It's not that I don't give money also, but we can't turn down any chance to raise funds. I take offense at the fuck you attitude you take towards giving to animals. It's an affront to the thousands of amazing people who volunteer in shelters everyday.
My philosophy is this : You give all the money you can afford to give, and then you volunteer your time on top of that.
REMEMBER! No donation is too small or too large! It is up to us to care for the creatures that WE have domesticated and "thrown away".
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

There's nothing embarrassing about that at all. When I was young we were on those gift lists too. We were broke. I had a single mom and a single dad (split custody), neither of them had great jobs, there were 3 kids under the age of 12. Times were rough.
But hey, now you're fortunate enough to give back. That's what matters.

Darn! Didn't know Angels was over. Toys for tots usually go right up to Xmas eve. Check their site for your local Marine rep and contact him... the site has all the info for you to make contact... local Kroger stores are collection points in most cities as well. And probably Robertsons (is that it out west?) since they belong to Kroger.

Me, too. I always wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid and Teddy Ruxpin, but both were too expensive for my family. So I got a Cabbage Patch Kid off eBay a couple of years ago and my husband got me a Teddy Ruxpin at a flea market
My opinion is that you should donate to kids or homeless now. You can donate to the little animals anytime and they won't know the difference.
Every year we give to two local Montreal charities;Dans la Rue which helps homeless youths and the Montreal Gazette Christmas Fund. This year we're also going to make a donation to the SPCA where we adopted our dog.

This is a story that I heard two days ago on a local radio station. There is a little boy 7 years old in washington Indiana, who went out side for something I didnt catch exactly what it was. While he was out there two older kids decided it would be fun to light the 7 year old on fire. The little boy was burned very badly and has some large medical bills that have to be paid. His family could use any help and I would personaly like to start a fund offering a reward, through the radio station that was doing the christmas wish for the boy, to find the kids that though lighting a 7 year old on fire would be fun. I contacted the radio station and will post information here, if anyone want to donate, tommorrow
That is actually really cool. Thanks for reminding me what is really important. I am going to donate stuffed animals/ little outfits to the premature babys in the neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital. They saved my little babys life when he was only 3lbs. It is really horrible to see an innocent little baby suffer. They took such good care of all the babys and even saved a 1lb baby that was born at 22 weeks. I really believe that they know when people care about them and it helps them get better. I am so happy every time I hug my baby and I hope that for the other people too. That is my suggestion.
