you do realize that you can change your shell completely in any verson of windows....
You don't have to use explorer.exe, My machine has a profile running a different shell. you can't even tell its windows.

You can use all the linux blackbox templates without porting them, and theres no explorer running. Theres lots of customizing involved but once you have it set up it destroys explorer.Originally posted by JSA Matt

Longhorn is actually going to be quite amazing.
Do not forget, the stuff floating around is VERY VERY alpha stuff. The GUI is not even close to finished, it is likely to change a lot.
Longhorn is the FIRST version since windows NT that has a 100% rewritten kernel. Most of the rest of the system is rewritten also. Its looking like it will be a very powerful version.
