Repartitioning An Accidentally Partitioned Drive...Is It Possible?

Is it possible to repartition an accidentally partitioned drive and get the information back, without paying a fortune to have it done professionally?

    Thanks

Partition Magic - get it. You can partition on the fly, and you can preserve the information, too.

Ohhhhh wait. You're saying you want to get the information AFTER you repartitioned the harddrive?

Sorry my friend, I don't think even the best data recovery specialists can help you with that. Your drive is fucked. Did you reformat the partitions, too?

No I didn't, and I wasn't the one that did it...and yes recovery specialists can recover it....but it'll cost upwards of $10,000

I'm not sure but I would try norton system utilities, usually you can undo the last changes to a drive. Good luck.

I have fucked up before, and I know very well that changing the partition tables has too deep of an impact on the drive for you to fix it yourself.

Besides, there is no "accidental" repartitioning of harddrives. You're not supposed to fuck around with it when you don't know how to do it.

I can't stand how many people on this board don't have a clue what they're talking about half the time, but just keep yapping on and on.

                        yes it was an accident...

...I had a friend installing XP for me, while I was messing with my old comp. When it came to partitioning/unpartitioning right before installing XP, he thought the 40GB drive was part of my new 160GB drive and he selected to unpartition it and it wasn't until right afterwards he realized what he did.

XP setup prompts you.... what... three times before it deletes the partition tables. Press 'D', then 'Enter' and then 'L'...something like that. sorry but your friend is a tool.

I'd suggest partition magic & Easy Recovery Professional..
Have saved me multiple times, ERP is your best bet first.. it allows you to try and get stuff off re-partitioned drives as long as you know what file system it was using previously [FAT32, NTFS]

EasyRecovery? DataRecovery recovers lost, deleted, or inaccessible files, folders, complete partitions or entire drives from multiple file types, media and operating systems.

--> sounds like that's what he needs

Good luck with that... unparitioning your drive is like opening your storage bag, turning it upside down, throwing everything into a fast moving river.

Pretty much ANY data recovery program that's available can retrieve your data. It'll scan your HD sector by sector and get it back.

Just the index is gone, nothing more.

Punters that claim you're fucked have no clue.

However....DO put your HD in another computer and repair it from a different working HD. The more you install on your 'fucked' drive the more you DO loose because your old data will be overwritten otherwise...

If you have the spare dough, go buy or rent/borrow a replica drive, and get norton ghost. Make a copy of the drive so that way if you manage to royally fuck up you'll have a back-up copy of the stuff you're fucked with atm lol.

[Trust me it has saved me multiple times.. forget making gradual backups, just copy your drive monthly heh.]

Ghost can't image drives without a partition on it.
