    is it bad to take out front nails ?
    there is some spray stuff u can get...works fairly well.. pulling their front(or any claws) is quite painful for the cat. not to mention it takes away their natural defenses.. if your cat gets outside..the neighbors dog would have it pretty easy..your cat wont even b able to climb a tree to get away.
    most reputable vets wont even do it anymore.

    if u have cats... expect some ripping of furniture.. in our house.. if the dogs are on the couch when company comes over.. company sits on the floor lol

                    Yeah he's a big boy. He's about the size of a small cocker spaniel. When he walks into the room you can see why he might look intimidating He actualyl disappeared into the woods for three months and came back alive, despite eagles, wolves, coyotes, foxes etc who all like to dine on kitty cats up here. I think his size had a lot to do with it.. he's just a HUGE cat.

                            You need to train him to a post right now.. Make sure that the post is a good 3 feet high or so, so that he cat stretch his whole body out on it.. cats stretch when they scratch, if the post is not long enough he will not use it. Make sure it's covered with a good strong carpet.. actually carpet BACKING is better. Put catnip on it, make sure he knows it's HIS. Every time you see him scratch somewhere, don't yell just take him to his post and stick his claws in it and walk away. It won't be long he will take the hint and use the post only. If he continues to scratch somewhere else, you can do a few things. The spray that was suggested will work, or wrap whatever he is scratching in tinfoil. Cats HATE getting their claws in tin foil. If you are consistant with putting him on his post and praising him for it, he will use it Positive reinforcement works MUCH better for cats than negative.

                                            I agree that training is the best thing, especially if it's a cat that goes outdoors.

                                            Another alternative is Softpaws, http://www.softpaws.com/ They are essentially little plastic claw covers. You or your vet trims the claw and places the cover over it with a bit of glue. They have to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks at the nails grow out.

                                            They even come in colors.

                                                                    Double-sided tape can also work for places where the cat is scratching and shouldn't.. It usually comes off couches and stuff pretty good and the cats REALLLLLLLLY hate it.
