Now if they would just smarten up on the extremely harsh penalties they are trying to pass through for selling the stuff it would make sense.

I've always thought the U.S. should set up hedonism zones in Hawaii and Puerto Rico...

      drugs... brothels... the whole deal
      one for each coast

So American could still enjoy it without a passport...
      their money stays in america...

And, since they're islands... it still easy to contain the "evils" so the people on the mainland wouldn't need to be afraid.

of course... I haven't pitched the idea to anyone in Hawaii or Puerto Rico yet.

The cops turn a blind eye to it already. We have a few cannibus cafes already in Vancouver. It's the Asian underground that rent out the million dollar homes and turn them into grow ops that piss off the cops.Imagine going to a realestate agent(asian) and giving them a million cash for a home...That's is what the government should stop, not the small ma and pop operations that grow 10 plants for personal use.

why would anyone say it should be handled by government?

this is the #1 problem with the world.

the government needs to do only a few things, and regul;ating every day life is NOT ONE OF THEM.

the government doesnt sell beer, Budweiser does, why should they sell Marijuana?

Like Medicare and Social Security, government bullshit.
