How many sites go by Alexa ratings for sales?

Most people say that Alexa is not very reliable but others think it is. I would like to know what people here think too.

Wankus from KSEX Radio wrote a big article about it. It seems he knows about alexa and it appears he knowsthe most about alexa.

Alexa is basically like a poll, it provides you a little insight but if you use it as your sole determining factor like George Bush then you're a dumbass.

Alexa is not reliable at all. It was never reliable. Some years ago (probably not anymore) Alexa was the primary traffic indication between news portal in Europe. All big advertisers was getting who have the largest regional alexa rankings and they were purchasing their banner spots.

One period in Greece, a dating site that was getting decent traffic appeared not in top 50 positions like always, but in the top5 which was almost impossible since it was directly competing the news portals that were spending millions for TV adv. time, radio etc
The owner of the site was contacted by tech magazines and he said he had found a way to prove that Alexa is not reliable. His web property didn't have any traffic increase, but yes it was apperaing in the top5 traffic sites. The next months more than few smaller sites followed his path and were started getting too high rankings. I think Alexa found a way to stop it and probably new methods are around.

Can you make use of Alexa cheating today in order to boost your adv. income? Well still many co. pay attention to their rankings. So, the answer is yes, you can find advertisers willing to spend money based on alexa results.

If you noticed this week Amazon.com is putting a little effort in Alexa and made some changes.

1) Reviews for sites are now directed to your own home page at Amazon where it links all your interest and reviews. It's reall cool if you have non-adult biz. No more reviews are being taken.

2) amazon.com now lets you put the traffic charts of your site and any others. and you can our charts up of your competitors site to show visitors and advertisers where you stand.


I know people put up charts on their site for years. It wasn't till this week that Amazon.com gave it's blessing and urge people to do so. Amazon.com is up to a few things. I know they are going to put some money into it and try to make a marketing machine for amazon. stay tuned

As a business, The Drudge Report's revenues are derived solely from advertising, which is sold by Intermarkets, an Oakton, Va. agency that also sells Internet ads for The Chicago Sun-Times, The Village Voice, NewsMax, Human Events and others on its website.

On a typical day in August, Drudge's site had nearly 6.5 million visitors, and it had 163 million in the preceding 31 days. The Internet traffic site Alexa.com ranked Drudgereport.com 215th in current Web traffic.

After Intermarkets takes its commission, the ad revenue is almost pure profit for Drudge, who says he shares a percentage of his profits with Breitbart. The overhead is minimal: $4,000 a month for Web-server costs plus about $20 a month for Internet service.

this is the lamest thing I have ever seen. Who bases traffic on Alexa anyways? Sure it's a good way to gauge your traffic in a way to see who visits your site that also visits other sites. BUT it only counts surfers who have the alexa toolbar! Only a small fraction of worldwide surfers use alexa's toolbar. I got sick of it msyelf and uninstalled it. Gotta love it when it gives you 'page cannot be found' on every page you visit when their servers are under a heavy loads.

This alexa booster is just going to make shit more difficult than it has to be and you'll draw some negative attention to us all due to it. Way to go shit stain.

I've been wondering if it's good or bad. I believe google fucked a lot of business,with a lot of good honest people. Do I like google? No. Do I like Alexa, not really. If I had to choose one in giving me the stats I need and everyone else needs to run a business,I would pick alexa.
