INSANE US school drug policy - pupil suspended for headache tablets.

    Student's one-year headache
    December 8, 2003 - 12:18PM

An American school with a "zero-tolerance" policy on drugs has suspended a pupil for a year for having headache tablets.

Year 10 high school pupil Amanda Stiles, from Louisiana, was suspended after over-the-counter Ibuprofen pills were found in her purse.

Head teacher Ken Kruithof said the decision was in line with Parkway High School's tough anti-drugs rules, even though the tablets are legal.

Amanda and her mother Kelly Herpin appealed to a school board committee but failed.

Herpin said: "I think a one-year expulsion for an over-the-counter medicine is pretty severe.

"I'm not really sure at this point what we'll do," she told the Louisiana-based Shreveport Times.

"I'm not sure we could afford a private school."

Amanda, 14, said she carried the tablets to treat headaches.

"I think we're old enough to know how many we can take without overdosing or being in danger," she said.

Last month armed police stormed a high school in South Carolina and ordered children to the floor at gunpoint so they could conduct a drugs search.

She was probably a consistant trouble maker, and they came down on her hard for this because the opening was there.

suspending a 14 year old for headache tablets... bloody hell what a mockery of commonsense. YOU CAN GET HEADACHE TABLETS FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE/ADMIN..

Similar thing happened to a gal that was suspended for having a 'weapon' in her purse..

            Nothing bu fingernail clips..

Some of these school people are to ignorant to be able to use a little common sense...

Imagine how hosed this society would be if every law/policy was adhered to using such boolean logic..

Even back in the 60's and 70-'s they preferred the parents to send meds like that in to the nurse to dispense. A year is pretty harsh, but they knew the rules. Maybe they need to follow Tennessee and add 'whale' to that rule.

I'd almost understand if it was tylenol 3 or something opioid. but a simple headache tablet?

I don't know.. maybe this is a cultural thing.. one of the small differences between our countries..
but it can't be you guys are so into prescription drugs...

Absolutely. Tylenol is the gateway drug. Next, the filthy whore is using decongestants. Then, she's popping claritin like they are pez. Finally, she is turing tricks to support her nyquil habit. Lock the bitch up now and keep out kids safe.

Imagine me coming all the way to GFY to see some guy from Australia quoting my local newspaper. Hell even the name sounds familiar.

I live 10 or 15 minutes outside of Shreveport. Small fucking world.

Back in the 70's they'd press sopors etc with stamps to look like aspirin etc. That probably started in the 60's.

So far as 'scripts... so? Kids get ahold of them and it takes 30 secs to make a new label nowadays. You can buy drug store tablets on the streets. They just had a burglary where the guys were caught on security film "shopping" the shelves before they stole the bottles.

Why would they be so harsh? The girl said she thought she was old enough to take them etc etc etc... how many "adults" are here that take things like X? Real good for you eh? So age is out of the question.

We had kids just nod over in class on different pills. Sad but it happened and I guess from what they report, it's even worse now.

Zero tolerence means zero tolerance. You can usually send your doc note to the nurse with the headache pills and they will administer the tylenol. Seems silly, but if someone didn't feck it up along the way, it wouldn't have to be that way.

Guess mom forgot to read the school handbook or just felt she was above the rules.
