Need HELP w/ windows 2000 pro Anyone??

    Hey guys.

I have windows 2000 pro on one of my laptops, and for some reason it has become unstable. It does not shut down properly and it freezes for almost nothing...

I tried to re- install it, but nothing. How do I format the C drive?? For some reason it wont let me.

    Any ideas??

What do you mean, "It has become unstable" It's a Microsoft product, right?

Sorry but couldn't resist. I bet if you contact Microsoft, they will give you the usualy advice, reinstall or upgrade........ Cause their newest version of Windows is so much more stable.

have you installed their current Service Packs?
you can just make a fresh format by inserting a bootable
disk or the bootdisk of Win2k.

Boot from the install cd. Then format during the re-install.

That sounds like a memory problem to me.

Check your memory sticks, either try to remove & re-install them or change them with new ones (if you can)...

when i install win2k pro its goes to shit in about 2 days, they only way for me to fix it is if i install IE6 and SP4, that stabilises it. i have no trouble with it at all when these two updates are installed.

dont reinstall, boot from the cd and do a full format, and install SP4 before you connect to the internet, because without it theres a possibility of getting a virus/worm (which happened to me when i formatted)

                  hope this helps

ok I have reinstalled and formatted windows 2k many, many times.

1st. Create the 4 system disks from control panel. label them. This is your startup/format/begin install of windows 2k. Cant use Dos format disks for win 2k and above.

2nd. restart computer and load from a: hopefully you did save everything you want.

3rd. It will ask you for the cd after the 4th disk is done loading. Follow the directions from there.

4th. as soon as you are done loading... install the new service packs, very first thing!!

BTW in my opinion the only other stable OS by Microsoft would be XP professional but win 2k is on all my systems
