Some years have bought trees to decorate and plant after x-mas. Did an orange tree and a lemon tree while in florida .
Last year we paid $5 to the national forest service and cut one down... but you are also allowed to dig them up to replant elsewhere for $5.... sooooooo, we will be diggin up this year and replanting when we are done with the x-mas holiday. I still get my real tree and its stays alive.

That's a fantastic idea.. We're going to the in-laws for Christmas this year so we aren't going to have our own tree, but I was thinking of getting one of the small potted ones and having the kids decorate it, then planting it in the spring. That kinda stuff is always fun!

Way cool... the kids will have fun planting it in the spring and watching it grow.
Every tree helps The smell of them is nice too, but like I say there's also cleanup and disposal to worry about too. Pine needles have a way of getting EVERYWHERE..
might be true, I celebrate christmas at my parents house and let them worry about all that
we always get a real one, but after last year i am sick and tired of watering it, and vacuming up pine needles. They are very nice but a lot of work so this year a fake one and it is really nice.
Going out to a tree farm tomorrow to chop down a nice 8 foot frazier fir...!!! Can't wait.
Plus there is 8+ inches of snow on the ground out at the farm so it is going to be a perfect norman rockwell type experience with the kid and the tree and the snow and the cocoa and the frosty breath and all that great stuff!

I LOVE the smell of a real tree. We had real ones when I was a kid, but both my grandparents had fake. We usually have a small fake one, but I think I want a big real one this year for the kids (and for me!).
