Fake, I just keep the x-mas tree in a closet with the decos and everything still on it all year. So I can just pull it out plug it in and be done with that mess in 5 mins.

I was brought up with a fake tree and have been happy with the same for as long as I can remember. Then, oddly enough, this year I have a craving for a real one.

I'm not worried about the 'Save a Tree' issue as all the 'Christmas Trees' they sell this time of year are all planted specifically to be cut and sold for Christmas and then a new tree is planted in its place to mature until it is big enough to be cut (at least that's the way it is here).

So this year we're on the lookout for a real tree and some new decorations to mark the occasion.

According to my beliefs the unneccessary destruction of living things such as trees is distasteful to say the least (in fact, even when in using the craft, pagans rarely cut anything down that isn't already down). For you it's really up to you, but consider.. that tree takes 10-15 years to grow to a size that is considered a "good size" christmas tree. Cutting it down means one less tree to provide oxygen, and another 10-15 years to replace it with another viable tree.

What causes less waste?

a fake one doesnt look as good and you dont get a nice christmas smell in your house.

besides, the destruction of the rain forest is a bigger threat to your oxygen than christmas trees.

Every tree helps

The smell of them is nice too, but like I say there's also cleanup and disposal to worry about too. Pine needles have a way of getting EVERYWHERE..

I was raised with a real tree, it smelled nice... but it was a lot of work, just getting it to stay in the stand right... then all the pine needles etc. So now we have a fake tree... much easier. Maybe next year I'll get one that's prelit too
