How does it work? I am thinking to have the main server write a code to the content servers htacess files every few minutes. Then the linking urls to the content will have that code in the linking url. SO if it does not match they do not get access. Think this will work?Originally posted by emmanuelle

What is the reason for the content on the different servers? If it's just because of storage, I can offer a suggestion or two. If it's to keep server load down (spreading the server load between several different servers), there are setups you can do to make what you are doing more efficient and you don't have to worry about the password protection between servers.
If you don't want to give the reason for having content spread among different servers, email me with the reason to

Choker we use Strong Box and this allows multiple members areas to be accessed from each other. Shoot Ray an email if you requirement is different to what I have mentioned. support @ webmastersguide.comComment

Yeah, Strongbox will work well for that and you get
truly state of the art security to boot. I too wonder
why you're putting content on multiple servers.
The Strongbox functionallity to do that was written
primarily so that one site could link to the members
area of a seperate but related site. It has since been
for all kinds of different purposes though. For historical display only. This information is not current:

propogating the htaccess across all of the servers would work.
remember you can no longer put usernames and passwords into urls with IE since a few patches ago, so they will have to reenter their usernames. not sure how strong box works, it would be cool if they didn't have to enter their info again.Comment

we do a mod5 authorization token on the content serverOriginally posted by Choker

With Strong Box they only enter the user/pass once and can then move from site to site.Comment

this looks perfect thanks man. The reason I need multiple servers is to keep the load spread out.Originally posted by Kevin2

We do it with Cisco load balancer and same content on all the boxes. The load balancer spreads the load around and the member only has to login onceOriginally posted by Choker

We are on a load balance set up and it works just great. An absolute *TON* of content and no problems at all.Originally posted by Hank_MrSkin

It would be better if you setup your system to do load balancing as some of the others have mentioned. Not only will that solve your password protection problem across servers, but it would transfer the load a lot more evenly across your servers. Also if one server goes down, the others would take up the slack.Originally posted by Choker
