I find that hard to believe! We were just in Vancouver in May for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Marriot Pinnacle downtown and did a lot of walking. Walking back from Gastown we considered cutting through an alley to get back to Hastings, but decided against it. Kinda scary folks lurking around there at night.
I guess I should feel lucky that my husband only got ripped off by one of those "I'm here from Australia and stuck here in town. I just need $20 US to get the bus to meet up with my friends. I promise I'll pay you back" scam.

In montreal I go pretty much anywhere without fear ... Dunno about vancouver but its not like there is places where you are more likely to get rob then another ... it happens rarely .
