    My man just got mugged!

    He just called me from his cell phone. He was downtown (Vancouver) and cut through an alley in the middle of the bright shiny morning. A girl appeared, asking for change. As soon as he put his hand in his pocket, a guy jumped out from behind a dumpster and punted him in the nuts!

    So now my guy is wandering around downtown with bloody knuckles, hoping they don't come back with buddies, because the guy lost a few teeth and was limping pretty bad when he and his girl left the scene. The asshole even had a punchline! Right before he kicked, he said "Guess it's not your lucky day!"

    I guess even Vancouver's alleys aren't safe any more.

                              No can do. He blacked out after he got punted and only snapped out of it when the girl started yelling "Stop hitting him!" I don't see any point to filing a report when he only has a charley horse in his leg, sore nuts and scraped knuckles. He feels awful about it. I figure that the guy took that risk on though. When you walk up to somebody and attack them, you don't know if they're a psycho Navy Seal or just some computer geek, so he took his chances.

He needs to clean those wounds right away and maybe get to a hospital to talk about possible transmission from the muggers to him if there was a fight. Open wounds to bloody teeth can result in HIV and Hepatitis transmission in a small number of cases. Better safe, IMO.

We stayed at the Marriot Pinnacle downtown and did a lot of walking. Walking back from Gastown we considered cutting through an alley to get back to Hastings, but decided against it. Kinda scary folks lurking around there at night.

                                                                                                          I guess I should feel lucky that my husband only got ripped off by one of those "I'm here from Australia and stuck here in town. I just need $20 US to get the bus to meet up with my friends. I promise I'll pay you back" scam.

I don't remember where I heard this, and I could be way off, but I remember hearing something like Vancouver has the highest crime ranking in Canada .. and one of the highest in North America.. (right behind LA, New York and Detroit).

                                                                                                                                                              when you live in the city that is not always avoidable however I have a little trick..i used to live in the city in philly and I worked and went to school in North Philly(ghetto) I use to have to take the subway home in the middle of the night and walk through a scary ass alley as i walked home ,and i was a prime target..so i started to talk to myself alot and act as crazy as some of the nuts on the street..i fit right in and nobody bothered me..I also try to make alot of noise so people avoided me
